WEST BOYLSTON-Mildred (Dorr) Cavan, 89, of West Boylston, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Millie would have been 90 on December 9th, a birth date she shared with her husband of 64 years, David J. Cavan, MD, who predeceased her on January 9th. She leaves six children: son, David J. Cavan, Jr., and his wife Karen of Holden, and their children, John, Brian and Kathryn; daughter, Maryellen Cavan of Littleton, NH; son, Dennis Cavan of Worcester and his son, Andrew; son, Timothy F. Cavan and his wife Kathleen of West Boylston and their children, Jennifer, Christopher, Joseph, Danielle and Caitlin; daughter, Ann Cavan of Newburyport; and daughter Susan J. Cavan of West Boylston. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Geri Dorr of Plum Island and Gloria Dorr of Haverhill, and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her son, Attorney Daniel R. Cavan of Washington, DC; four brothers, Kenneth T. Dorr, O.F.M., St. Bonaventure, NY, Lawrence Dorr, Plum Island, Richard Dorr and Walter F. Dorr, Jr., Haverhill; and two sisters, R. Eunice Dorr and Catherine (Teena) Dorr Reardon, Haverhill.
She was born in Haverhill, daughter of Walter F. and Katherine (Madigan) Dorr and graduated from St. James High School and Salem State College. Millie taught school in Haverhill until moving to Worcester in 1950. She was a member of Worcester City Hospital Aid Society and volunteered in the gift shop and the Wednesday Morning Clinic. Millie was a longtime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where she taught Christian Doctrine and was a member of the Woman's Club for many years. She was a member of the West Boylston Woman's Club, Friends of the Library and the Historical Society.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 3rd at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday, December 2nd from 4 to 7 PM in FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston.
