Shrewsbury- Muriel "Moe" Babigian, 78, passed away surrounded by her family on December 15 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home following many courageous battles with cancer.
She was born in Worcester on January 26, 1937, daughter of the late Henry A. Potvin, Sr. and Orise M. (Lauzon) Potvin. Muriel grew up on Grafton Hill in Worcester and attended local schools where she graduated from Commerce High School. She went on to work in several offices including Blondin's and Thom McCann.
Muriel met the love of her life Vernon "Vahe" Babigian and they were married in 1965. This past September, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party in the presence of their family. They also were able to enjoy a vacation with their children and grandchildren in Cape Cod to celebrate this milestone.
Her beloved Vahe predeceased her this past October.
Muriel dedicated her life to taking care of those she loved. She took pride in raising her two daughters while a stay at home mother. Muriel loved people and socializing, and she always made people feel comfortable. She had a heart of gold and affectionately called everyone she met "Cutie." She was proud of her French-Canadian heritage. Her joy was to make apple pie for her grandsons.
"Moe and Vern" were inseparable. They enjoyed trips to the casino, going out to dinner and spending time with their family, especially their grandsons, who lovingly called her "Mimi."
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury for the past forty-one years. She was a proud member of St. Joseph's Parish in Worcester while growing up.
Muriel is survived by her loving children, Ann Wildgoose and her husband David of Pittsfield, Michelle Babigian and her partner Jared Smith of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren, Jack Arthur, David Charles and Alexander Vahe Wildgoose; her sisters Lorraine Harris of Shrewsbury and Jeanne Houle of Auburn. Her sister, Germaine Dudley and brothers Roland, Henry, Jr. and Robert Potvin predecease her.
Muriel's family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Suzana Makowski, of UMASS Medical Center, for her guidance and support, her caregivers during rehabilitation while at Christopher House and all of the amazing staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home who comforted her and her family during her final days.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 18 from 4 until 7pm at the CALLAHAN-FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 12:30 pm on Saturday, December 19 at St. Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial is to follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.
