Nancy J. Coonan

Nancy J. (Prefontaine) Coonan, 81, of Auburn died Wednesday July 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family after a long illness.

   She leaves her husband of 60 years, James E. Coonan, two daughters; Lori Sousa and her husband Phil of Auburn and Robin Hanlan and her husband John of Charlton, a brother Robert Prefontaine and his wife Linda of Newport, R.I, a sister Joyce Shea and her husband Denis of Kennebunk, Maine, two beloved grandchildren Devin & Kiley Hanlan, three nephews; Craig Shea, Chris & Stephen Prefontaine and a niece Tracy Blais and several great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a nephew Jay Prefontaine.

   Nancy was born in Worcester, daughter of Arthur and Jean (Moody) Prefontaine.  She was a cheerleader and a graduate of Commerce High School.  She was an instructional aid and a field hockey coach for many years at Auburn High School retiring in 2014.  She enjoyed bowling and golfing.  She loved to take vacations with her family especially to Cape Cod and the White Mountains.  

  A visitation hour will be held on Monday, July 10th from 11:00 AM until Noon in Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester with a memorial service following at noon in the funeral home.  Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn will be private at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
