WORCESTER-Nancy A. (Barbour) Masterson, 81, passed away Monday, September 27 in the Beaumont Nursing Center, Westborough, after a short illness.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Doris (Collins) Barbour and graduated from St. Peter's High School and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. Nancy was a caring and compassionate registered nurse for over 50 years, retiring reluctantly at the age of 75. She began her career at the former City Hospital and had worked the last 25 years at Beaumont Nursing Center. Her life completed its full circle as she was lovingly cared for at her place of work, before passing. Nancy was an incredibly resilient and selfless person and found joy in helping others and putting their needs first. She was a daily communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Mustard Seed. In her spare time, Nancy was an avid reader. She loved spending time at her family's home in Harwich Port and appreciated traveling around the world with her daughter, son in law and grandchildren. The beaches of Aruba and Hawaii were favorites and she toasted to her 75th birthday in Ireland. However, her most memorable and meaningful trip was when she attended Christmas Eve services at The Vatican in Rome.
Her husband of 38 years, Richard W. Masterson passed away in 2001. She leaves her daughter, Kristen M. Schultz and her husband, Joseph of Ridgewood, NJ; her pride and joy, her four grandchildren, Ellie, Katie, Jack and Caroline; her best-friend and sister, Mary Navin and her husband, Jack of Paxton; her life long friends, Marie Brissette, Joanna Heaney, Peggy McMenemy and Loretta Testa, nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews and her god-children. Her son, Kevin P. Masterson; her grandson, Michael and two brothers, Jerry and Peter Barbour predeceased her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Beaumont in particular, the care and friendship of Donna Murgo and Andrew Salmon.
