Lt. Colonel Nelson H. Newhouse passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on May 13, 2023. He was born September 28, 1944 in Springfield, MA to Warren and Lucille (Whiting) Newhouse.
Nelson graduated from Minnechaug High School in Wilbraham, MA in 1962 and from West Point in New York with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1966. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star. After his tour, he joined the U.S. Air Force for Pilot training. He was stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, MA where he flew 123’s, C-130’s, and the C-5 Galaxy. Nelson served in both the Air Force and Air Force Reserves including time served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He worked in the sales civilian sector for G.E.C. in Westborough, MA and Codex in CT. After retiring from the Air Force, Nelson worked as a Software Technician at Hanscom Air Force Base before retiring completely in 2008.
Nelson enjoyed playing the organ and was a member of Falcetti Music Club. He also enjoyed photography, cooking, RVing, and boating.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Lucille Newhouse. He is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Linda J. Raymond Newhouse of Kennebunk; children, Wade Newhouse and his wife, Jo Ellen of NC, Brandon Hopkins and his wife, Misou of VA, Karen Kalinowski and her husband, David of Boylston, MA, and Lauren Lavery of Arundel, ME; sister, Carol Anderson and her husband, Peter of MO; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joey, Justin, Lily, Elise, George, and Kien; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Nelson's life with visiting hours from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Thursday, May 25th, 2023 in Fay brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston. A funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. Burial will be held privately for the family.
