Patricia A. (Morris) Monk, 68, passed away on March 28th after a brief illness, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, dedication, and love for family and friends.
Born in Norfolk, MA, Pat was the cherished daughter of the late Simonne (Perreault) and James E. Morris. She grew up with a curious mind and a passion for problem-solving that would guide her throughout her life and career.
After graduating from King Phillip High School in 1975, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Framingham State College. Patricia built an accomplished career as a software engineer, working for Data General as well as Cisco Systems Inc., contributing to advancements that helped shape modern day technology. She was especially proud of her role in early software developments, most specifically, the development of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS). Her work reflected both her intellect and her forward-thinking vision while breaking ground for many women in the tech world.
Beyond her professional achievements, Patricia had a deep love for the outdoors and dedicated her retirement to breeding and raising Quarter Horses. She was a lifelong member of the AQHA and USEF as well as a member of the NRA. This passion brought her great joy and connected her with a wide circle of friends and fellow enthusiasts. When not at the barn, Pat could often be found enjoying trips to the Cape and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted New England sports fan and never missed a chance to catch a Red Sox or Woo Sox game.
Patricia will be remembered for her intelligence, independence, and generous spirit. She leaves behind her brothers Michael Morris (Kathleen) of Plainville, MA and James Morris, Jr. of Milford, MA. As well as her nieces and nephews Jonathan (Jessica), Melissa (Michael), Timothy, and Ellen (Christoper). She also leaves behind many grandnieces and grandnephews throughout the country. She will be deeply missed by her beloved Goddaughter Kara Berry (Craig) of Englishtown, NJ.
She will be greatly missed by her horses, Gracie, Nic and Jac as well as her sweet cat, Hazel. She was predeceased by her husband Robert A. Monk, her mother Simonne, father James, stepfather Merrill Holmes and many beloved pets.
Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Pat’s life with visiting on Saturday April 25th from 10am to 12pm, with a service beginning at 12pm at Fay Brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Bob.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Patricia’s name to the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation or MSPCA-Angell.
