Paul J. Carnazza 79, formerly of Bishop Ave. died Monday, Dec,8 in the University Commons, after an illness.
He leaves five sons, Joseph P. of Montclair, NJ, Stephen G. of Marion, John P. of Spencer, Paul of Spencer, and James A. of Holden; two daughters, Mary E. Mowatt of Caribou, ME and Ann-Marie Carnazza of Natick; a brother, Joseph Carnazza of Charlestown, NC; a sister, Marian Mulcahy of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren and nephews and nieces. A daughter Susan J. Carnazza died in 1966. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC, son of Carmello and Mary (Gilmartin) Carnazza. He graduated from South High School and Worcester State College, where he also received his masters in education.
He was a Marine Corp. Veteran of WWII serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre and was a purple heart recipient.
He was a School Teacher for the City of Worcester, teaching at Gates Lane School and retiring from Freeland St. School. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, the Main South American Legion Post %23341, Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council %2388 and a former member of the Massachusetts and National Teachers Association.
A Funeral will be held Thursday, Dec 11, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME 9 Hammond St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main St. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Wednesday, Dec.10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to the Huntington Disease Research Foundation 500 W.
