Paul C. Faler

WORCESTER/LYNNFIELD-Paul C. Faler, formerly of Massasoit Road, Worcester and most recently of Lynnfield, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Mr. Faler celebrated his 100th birthday on March 30, 2017. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lena J. (Morello) Faler on June 2, 2005 and son, Paul G. Faler on December 14, 2011.

He was born in Worcester, son of Gustaf and Sophia (Smeds) Faler. Paul was one of many Swede-Finns who lived near the Quinsig Village area. Both of his parents emigrated to the area in the 1890's from the small village of Malax, Finland where they were born and raised. Paul was the last of seven children and was predeceased by his siblings, Edwin and Oscar Hagen, Carl and Rudolph Faler, Florence Soderblom and Irene Vacca. He lived in Worcester his entire life until moving to Lynnfield in 2010. For most of his life, he lived in his house on Massasoit Road, which he built himself right after WW II. He was a wire worker for 43 years at Worcester Wire until retiring in 1983. He was proud that his perfect attendance record extended over the entire 43 years. Paul and his wife Lena were longtime members of Bethlehem Covenant Church. He was an active member of the church and served as a deacon for a number of years. He also taught Sunday school and was a mentor for the Youth Groups. He rarely missed church.

One highlight in Paul's life was his experience as a coach for a Little League team for about 10 years. The high point was the 1957 season in which Paul coached the Gabby Hartnett League All-Stars to win the Massachusetts state championship, the last time that a Worcester team has done so.

Paul is survived by his son, James H. Faler and his wife Bonnie of Wilmington, NC, his daughter-in-law, Karen Faler of Wakefield, and was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He also leaves many nephews and nieces.

As a first generation American, Paul placed a high value on education. He was the first person in his family to graduate from high school. He constantly preached the importance of higher education to his sons and grandchildren. Undoubtedly, his influence was an important factor; his sons both earned PhD degrees and his six grandchildren all graduated from college and earned two PhD's, an MBA, two MD's, and an MS. Paul lived a long, full life. He was a strong and positive influence on many. He was a good man who will be missed by his loved ones.

Burial will be at All Faiths Cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 22. The Funeral Service will be held immediately following the burial at 11:30 am at Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood Street, Worcester, with a reception to follow at the Church. Arrangements are in the care of Lindquist Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester.
