Paul E. Johnson, 78, passed away peacefully at home after years of declining health on February 12, 2026, in the loving arms of his wife and two daughters.
Born on September 13, 1947, in Worcester, Paul was the son of Evald F. Johnson and Karin M. (Lund) Johnson. He graduated from South High School, Worcester, where he was well known for his athletic ability, especially track and field. He continued his education at Worcester Junior College and Worcester Industrial Technical Institute. Paul went on to serve his country in the United States Army National Guard for 6 years with an honorable discharge. He later dedicated 44 years of his professional life to Norton Company/Saint-Gobain, where he worked as a Senior Research Associate in the R&D lab. His commitment, intelligence, and steady presence earned him the respect of colleagues and friends.
Paul had a lifelong love of water and felt most at peace near it. Whether it was swimming, body surfing, snorkeling or cliff jumping, he was happiest by the oceans and rivers, especially Nauset Beach, Bermuda and the White Mountains, places he cherished for its beauty and the memories made there.
At home, Paul found comfort in simple pleasures: watching football as an avid Patriots fan, movies and historical documentaries, listening to music, and enjoying good food. He was a strong, kind and humble man. Even during illness, he never complained. Paul had a natural ability to connect with people and make them feel at ease.
Above all, Paul treasured his role as “Papa.” He loved and cherished his children and grandchildren with all his heart and considered himself truly blessed to watch them grow. His pride in his family was evident in every story he shared and every moment he spent with them.
Paul leaves many behind that will miss him dearly, including his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Nancy R. (Tjellander) Johnson, to whom he was married for 54 years. He also leaves behind his children, daughter, Kim Callinan of Worcester, son-in-law Eric, grandsons Ryan and Benjamin. Daughter, Tara Kaminski of West Boylston, son-in-law Jesse, granddaughters Emma, Grace, and Madelyn. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Paul was predeceased by his parents and a brother David Johnson.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Notre Dame Health Care Hospice of Worcester for their exceptional care, love and support during their time of need.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation in Paul’s name to the New England Parkinson’s ride benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation using this link https://give.michaeljfox.org/fundraiser/6996952
