Paul F. McGrath 89, of 482 Grove St. died Friday, Jan. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Augusta D. (Thomas) McGrath; a son, Paul F. McGrath of Westborough; a daughter, Carol A. McGrath of Worcester; five grandchildren, Jonathan P. McGrath, Carolyn A. McGrath, David H. McGrath and Megan E. McGrath all of Westborough and Thomas P. McGrath of Burlington, VT. and three great-grandchildren. A sister, Helen E. McGrath, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Patrick and Catherine (Gilrain) McGrath and graduated from St. John's High School where he was president of the Class of 1933 and captain of the baseball team. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a Captain during WWII.
Paul was a machinist for Norton Company, for many years before retiring.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and past president of its Men's Club. He was also a member of the Main South American Legion Post %23341, Worcester Lodge of Elks %23243, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Monday, Jan. 31, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Home 101 Plantation St. Worcester, 01604 or to the St. John's Scholarship Fund, 378 Main St. Shrewsbury, 01545.
