OXFORD-Paul Walter Strom, 70 of Oxford, died Sunday, May 29 at home, following a courageous battle with emphysema and lung cancer, with his daughter-in-law Kathy Strom at his bedside. Paul was born on August 14, 1934 in Auburn, the son of Walter and Sylvia (Dufault) Strom. He was raised in Auburn and attended area schools. He lived in Massachusetts, Maine and Florida before moving in with his son Charlie and wife Kathy Strom in Oxford last fall.
Paul began a trucking career in the 1950's with Rand Whitney and logged thousands of miles across the country with various companies through his retirement in 2003 from Carroll Fulmer Trucking in Florida. Paul's bigget passion in life was his children and grandchildren. Paul enjoyed NASCAR and spent many an hour discussing the sport with his son Charles. Vacationing across the country with his best friend of over 40 years, "Bud" Lund of Oakland, Maine made him happy. He was extremely proud of his youngest son CS1 Scott Strom for his service in the United States Navy and particularly his current duty, working at the White House.
Paul was predeceased by his parents and his grandson Zachary McRae, who died March 18, 2005 at the age of 17. He his survived by five children, Glenn Strom and his wife Eileen of Laconia, NH; Mark Strom of Millbury; Michelle McRae and her husband Michael of Oakland, ME; Charles Strom and his wife Kathy of Oxford and Scott Strom and his wife Mellissa of Oakland, ME. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Heather Trudeau of Northbridge, Melanie Theberge and her husband Greg of Cumberland, RI, Ryan Streitenberg of Laconia, NH, Jessica Strom of Worcester, Mark "Bud" Strom of Millbury, Matthew and Joshua Cote of Oakland, ME, Chaz Strom of Grafton, Michael Strom of Worcester, Courtney and Chelsea Principe of Oxford and Mikey and Tyler "P.W." Strom of Oakland, ME. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Sara Trudeau of Northbridge and Aiden Streitenberger of Laconia, NH. One brother, Kenneth Strom and his wife Nola of Millbury and his best friend, James "Bud" Lund of Oakland, ME.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 10:00 AM in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler Street, Worcester. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 1 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Paul's name to UMASS Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
