Philip Harrington

d. September 1, 2017

HOLDEN - Philip L. Harrington, 64, was stricken ill and died peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2017. He was born and raised in Worcester and had lived in Holden for the past 19 years.

Among those who will greatly miss him are his beloved wife of 28 years, Donna (Casamassima) Harrington; his four children including his two sons, David Harrington of Holden and John Casamassima of Boston as well as his two daughters, Christal Reynolds of Leicester and Sonya Harrington of Spencer; his beloved mother, Louise (Avedisian) Harrington of Worcester; three brothers, David A. Harrington and his wife, Susan, Paul Harrington and Michael Harrington, all of Worcester; his sister, Pamela Besaw of Worcester; his four grandchildren and his great granddaughter; as well as several in-laws and nieces and nephews and his life time friend, Victor Monfreda. He was predeceased by his father, Philip A. Harrington and his sister, Paula Speltz, who both died in 2006.

Phil graduated from Doherty High School and began a long career in the building and construction field. He was the owner and operator of P. Harrington Roofing, a company he operated for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2014. He was a longtime member of the Alhambra Council %23 88, Knights of Columbus in Worcester, where he could often be found in the kitchen cooking up a pot of his famous clam chowder. Phil will long be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and most importantly, his "bad Phil joke of the day", which usually was only funny because Phil would be the first one laughing as he told it. He was a devoted fan of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees, to the dismay of many family and friends. An avid golfer, Phil enjoyed many hours on the links with his friends, including his best friend and steady partner, his son David. Memories will always remain of the annual guys golf trip to Myrtle Beach, SC as well as the family gatherings where Phil shared many of his culinary creations. He loved music, especially the Blues and music from the Rolling Stones and Beatles. Listening to Phil jam on his harmonica was always a treat for anyone who was there to enjoy. He will be remembered with a smile by all those who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to Phil's life celebration by visiting with his family on Thursday, September 7, from 4-7 p.m. at the CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. A prayer service will be then held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
