Phyllis (Rawding) Crowley, 78 formerly of Monadnock Rd. died of complications of diabetes on June 14, 2005. She leaves a daughter Anne E. Crowley of Worcester; two sisters, Margaret H. Rawding and Irene M. Rawding both of Wells, ME nieces and nephews. Four brothers, John, Ralph, Allister "Whitey", and Robert Rawding, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester daughter of Allister D. and Hannah (Curran) Rawding. She graduated from St. Peter's High School and received her undergraduate degree in English from Worcester State Teachers College. She was awarded a fellowship at Catholic University of America (CUA) and received her Master Degree in English Literature at (CUA).
Phyllis returned to New England in the mid 1950's to teach in the Worcester Public Schools, Seymour Highschool in Connecticut and at Anna Maria College and sing with the Worcester Light Opera. In 1961 she began teaching at Worcester State College(WSC) . Where she remained until her retirement as a full professor in 1997. Upon her retirement she was given professor emeritus from WSC. During her years at WSC she was involved in countless faculty and student committees and was elected to the Teacher's Union. She and remained active in the WSC Alumni Association and started writing a short story collection and a collection of children's stories featuring her pets.
A private funeral was held in June. Callahan and Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. directed arrangements.
