Prof. Raphael J. Njoroge, esteemed scholar and educator, dies at 75.

WORCESTER-Prof. Raphael J Njoroge, 75, of Worcester, MA and Mang'u, Kenya passed away on Wednesday morning, 19th of November, with his family by his side.

He was born and raised in Makwa, Kenya to Margaret Njeri and the late Nahashon Miru.

He received his bachelor's degree from St Mary's, Canada, two postgraduate degrees from Seattle University and Gonzaga University, in Washington State and his PhD from the University of Nairobi.

Prof Njoroge was an acclaimed scholar and teacher. His most recent teaching appointments were at the Worcester consortium of colleges, including Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester State University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

Prof Njoroge is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lucy Wairimu and six children: John Miru, Margaret Mbugua, Irene Mumbi Dunjwa, Albert Mungai, Kenneth Mwicigi and Chistrine Muthoni. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Jalen Scott Njoroge, Heri Mburu Mbugua and Nolitha Wairimu Dunjwa. He was preceded in death by his grandson Thando Njoroge Dunjwa. He is also survived by 13 brothers and 12 sisters as well as a large, loving extended family.

There will be a wake held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 6:00-7:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 7:00 PM both in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St. A Memorial Service and Life Celebration will take place on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Ghosh Science & Technology Center, Worcester State University.
