Raymond E. Hartnett, 90 Auburn
AUBURN-Raymond E. Hartnett, 90, of Auburn died after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester surrounded by family. His wife of 53 years, Jane E. (Kelleher) Hartnett, died in 2008.
He leaves five children, Patricia DePatie and her husband Michael of Rockwood, ME, Rosemary Mandella and her husband Joseph of Cherry Valley, Susan Madaio of Paxton, Stephen Hartnett and his wife Helene of Oxford, and Paul Hartnett of Worcester. His son Michael predeceased him in 2006.
Ray also leaves his grandchildren, Molly (Madaio) Lauring, Laura Madaio, Daniel Hartnett and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law John Madaio (2018), sister Shirley McGrath (2012), and infant sister Patricia.
Ray was born in Worcester, MA the son of Raymond F. and Mary E. (Kerrigan) Hartnett. He graduated from South High School in Worcester, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. Ray retired from New England Telephone Company, Worcester after 39 years of service. He was a proud member of the Main South American Legion Post 341, the Auburn Lodge of Elks, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Ray most enjoyed time spent with his family, especially summer vacations at the beach, Sunday dinners with the family, and a good poker or pitch game. He was an avid baseball fan and found joy in celebrating World Series wins by the Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs. Ray was a self-taught student of history, who had a particular interest in the Civil War and enjoyed visiting Gettysburg. During the last few years he really looked forward to his Friday night dinners at Suney's.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Sunday, June 9th, from 2 to 5 PM in the Callahan, Fay, Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. Ray's Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June, 10th at 10AM in the Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
