WEST BOYLSTON-Raymond F. Jones, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2 after a short illness at Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester.
Ray leaves his wife of 62 years, Ann M. (Hyland) Jones and their children Kathleen and her husband Peter Collins, Susan and her husband Steve Stowe, and Timothy and his wife Colleen; his eight adored grandchildren, Patrick (Hannah), Timothy (Jessica), Eileen, Erin (Daniel), Annabel, Owen, Daniel and Matthew; his four great-grandchildren, Finn, Ryan, Lucy and Liam; his brother-in-law Patrick Hyland and his wife Anne and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Marie Jerome and his brother J. Phillip Jones. Ray was born in Worcester on March 16, 1936, the youngest child of the late Mary (Miller) and Francis Jones.
Ray graduated from St. John’s High School on Temple St and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Worcester State Teachers College. He served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. He previously taught middle school math in the Auburn and Framingham Public Schools retiring 1996. In retirement, he worked part time for the Framingham Teachers Association as a retirement consultant. He was an active member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and served on its Board of Directors.
He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88 and served as its Financial Secretary for many years. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the K of C golf team. Ray and his wife shared a love of travel exploring many countries with friends over the years. Family and friends were the most important part of Ray’s life. If you were a friend to Ray, you were a friend for life.
Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday, April 7 from 5 to 7pm at Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 8 at 10am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88, PO Box 20404, Worcester, MA 01602.
