WORCESTER – Richard (Dick) John Courtney, 94, of Worcester passed away Thursday, February 17 at the Christopher House. His wife of 59 years, Sandra J. (Mataski) Courtney passed on September 12, 2012.

He is survived by his sister, Ann Tanona of Worcester, his three children, Kevin E. Courtney of Finksburg, MD, Karen (KC) L. Mitchell of Worcester and Colleen (Court) M. Sclamo of Worcester; a granddaughter, Samantha Jo Mitchell-Johnson and her husband, Troy of Worcester and Samantha's father Nicholas Mitchell of Shrewsbury; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was born in Worcester on December 26, 1927. He was predeceased by his parents William and Nellie (Sheehan) Courtney and siblings Catherine, Thomas, William, James, Edward and twins Theresa Larson and Eleanor. Dick graduated from Commerce High School and was president of his graduating class. He earned his BS degree in Business Administration from Clark University and worked his entire career at Clark University as the Bookstore Manager until retiring to Cape Cod. Dick and Sandy ultimately returned to Worcester and spent many years enjoying and helping to raise their granddaughter, Samantha. Dick loved the outdoors and spent many summers boating, swimming and fishing on Lake Lashaway. Dick was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots through both the good times and not so good times. He was active with Scouting for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88.

Visiting Hours are Tuesday, February 22 from 5 to 7pm at the Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, February 23, at St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester, MA. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Church or to the Eternal World Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Rd., Irondale, AL 35210.
