Richard (Rick) A. Eggleston, 61, of Townsend, MA passed away on January 10 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.
He is survived by his daughter Vanessa L. Eggleston and her husband Christopher of New Bedford and his son Nicholas R. Eggleston and his wife Erin of Spencer. Richard also leaves behind two grandchildren, Dani and Shay Dematteo. His former wife Kelly A. (Bernard) Eggleston of North Grafton, two brothers David Eggleston and his wife Verla of CA, and Danny Eggleston and his wife Patty of Worcester, as well as two sisters Terry Smith and her husband Clarke of Rochdale, and Susan Eggleston and her husband Tim of Southbridge. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brother Michael Eggleston.
Rick was born in Worcester to Robert and Dorothy (Jaques) Eggleston. He graduated from Oxford High School and worked as a general manager at Colonial Pest Control for many years. Through his years at Colonial Pest Control, Rick was an excellent example of honest, hard work.
Known for his love of the outdoors, Rick enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking, camping, fishing, and running. He loved hiking and camping in the White Mountains. He especially loved trail running at Mt. Monadnock and met many good people along the way. Rick also enjoyed learning new hobbies, like cooking and playing piano.
He also cared deeply for his family, especially his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren always brought out the softer side in Rick. He was always generous and ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Rick will be remembered for his adventurous spirit and kind heart.
In accordance with Rick's wishes, the family will arrange a celebration of life. Rick was a straight shooter, and you always knew what you got with him. His favorite saying was, “Say what you mean and mean what you say” and his family is saying “We love you Rick and you will be forever missed”.
