WEST BOYLSTON-Richard A. Novia, 91, passed away Friday, October 13 in the Oakdale Nursing Center.
He leaves his wife of 71 years, Phyllis I. (Pyne) Novia; three sons, Dennis R. Novia and his wife, Paula of West Boylston, James E. Novia and his wife, Elaine of West Boylston and Kevin P. Novia of Worcester; five grandchildren, Alison, Andrew, Patrick, Sarah and Jessica and a great-granddaughter, Jariella. Two brothers, George and Victor predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of George H. and Antonina E. (Amello) Novia and graduated from Major Edwards High School and Worcester Boys Trade School. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1973.
Richard was a Local #107 Union Carpenter for many years, working for Granger Brothers. After retirement he worked at Checkerboard Ltd. He was a member of the Harold N, Keith Post #204, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree O’Reilly Assembly, NMCB-12 Seabees Assoc., and a former building inspector for the Town of West Boylston. In his younger years he played semi-pro baseball and later coached little league for 20 years for the Town.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Oakdale Nursing Center and JHC Hospice program for all their loving care and support.
A Funeral Mass will be held PRIVATE in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, the Disabled Americans Veterans at www.help.dav.org
