d. June 24, 2009

Richard Philip, 81, of Hamlin, NY (formerly of Northborough, MA) passed away Wednesday after a lengthy illness. Dick was born in Worcester, MA on September 7, 1927 to parents Madeline (Zarzartian) and George Philips. Dick and his late wife Shirley (Monahan) subsequently moved to Northborough, MA, where he resided for almost 40 years. Eight years after Shirley's passing in 1997, Dick decided to relocate to Hamlin, NY to live with his son and daughter-in-law where he resided at the time of his death. In addition to the death of his parents and that of his wife Shirley in 1997, Dick lost his beloved daughter, Karen Bills in July of 2008.

Dick is survived by three sons, Richard of Warwick, RI, Mark and his wife Lora of Hamlin, NY, with whom he made his home, and Joseph and his partner Matt Mattus of Worcester, MA. He also leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Vareschi of Hampton, NH and Elinor Leland and her husband William of Uxbridge, MA. Dick was a very proud grandfather of four, Michael Philip of Worcester, MA, Curtis Philip of Rochester, NY, Heather Philip of Worcester, MA and Amanda Birardi of Liverpool, NY, and great grandfather of six. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends including Jim and Sam Roberts of Hamlin, NY. Pam & Chris Davis of Leicester, MA, the Rackus & Dallis families, Effie Amidon, and Sue & Bob Kasaras, all of Northborough, MA. He will be sorely missed by all, including his loving canine companions Moose and Spinner.

Dick worked for Neles-Jamesbury (Metso Automation) for several years retiring in 1996. As a member of "The Greatest Generation", Dick proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Navy as an Electrcians Mate Fireman, serving on several ships. His love for life, family, friends and animals endeared him to all who had the pleasure to make his acquaintance. He will be deeply missed by his family, who will endure by recollection of the many memories a lifetime as wonderful as his has produced.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home in Hilton, NY in conjunction with Callahan & Fay Brothers in Worcester, MA will be assisting the family. After cremation, Dicks remains will be interred at St. Johns Cemetery on Cambridge Street in Worcester, MA.
