Richard L. Townsend

WEST BOYLSTON
Richard L. "Dick" Townsend, 90, of West Boylston died Monday, February 22 at home surrounded by his loving family.
His wife, Nancy J. (Cutler) Townsend died in 1976. He leaves five children, Scott L. and his wife Cheryl Townsend of Orange, Carol J. and her husband Neal Howard of Barre, Karen L. and her husband Rick Riani of Auburn, Sharon A. and her husband Mike Vincent of West Boylston and Lynne A. Townsend and her companion Stephen Monaghan of Worcester; his longtime companion, Pauline Savage of Worcester; a sister, Sally Soloperto of Millbury; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A brother, David Townsend predeceased him. He was born in Boston, son of James A. and Grace E. (Clementson) Townsend and graduated from Sutton High School and attended Worcester Junior College.
Richard was an industrial engineer for many years for George J. Meyer Company, following his retirement he worked at The World of Unfinished Furniture in Auburn.
Richard was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Olive Branch Lodge of Masons in Millbury, a former president of the West Boylston Little League, a 30 year member of the West Boylston Parks Commission and a member of the West Boylston Band Stand Committee. The Town of West Boylston dedicated the Townsend Field in Goodale Park in honor of Richard for all his years of service to the town. Richard enjoyed small home projects and ballroom dancing.
The family would like to thank Richard's caregivers, Sue Coviello, Sue Carreau and Courtney Brown who have provided him with great care and support.
The Funeral Service will be on Thursday, February, 25 at 11 AM in Oakdale United Methodist Church, 15 North Main St. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Wednesday, February 24, from 5 to 8 PM at Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Boylston Board of Park Commission, 127 Hartwell St., West Boylston, 01583.
