Rita A. Deely

AUBURN- Rita A. (Goguen) (Short) Deely, formerly of Pakachoag Village, Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. She leaves a son Richard W. Short and his wife Deborah of Auburn; a brother, J.P. Raymond Goguen and his wife Paula of Fitchburg; a daughter-in-law, Karen Short of Worcester, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a nephew. Rita was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, John Richard Deely; two daughters, Nancy Short and Elaine Sorbey, and a son, David H. Short, Jr.

She was born in Gardner, daughter of Emile and Elizabeth (Leger) Goguen and graduated from Gardner High School. Later, she attended and graduated from David Fanning School of Nursing and Ward Secretarial School in Worcester. She was employed as a nurse and then Office Manager at Spring Valley Convalescent Home in Worcester for 25 years, retiring in 1984. Rita was an avid Red Sox fan and was involved in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years. Upon retiring, Rita enjoyed calling Bingo and spending time with her friends at Pakochoag Village.

The funeral will be held on Friday, October 19 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Dr., Auburn. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Visiting hours are Thursday, October 18 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home.
