Rita L. (Ryan) Mirante, a beloved member of the West Boylston community, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the Knollwood Nursing Center. She was 104 years old, having been born on September 17, 1920, in Gardner, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Arianna (Stearns) and Leo Ryan. Her beloved husband, Gaetano "Guy" Mirante passed away in 1986.
Rita dedicated 27 years of her life to Astra Pharmaceutical, serving as a sterile room worker and retiring in 1982. Her commitment to her career was matched only by her passion for community service. She actively volunteered with the West Boylston Historical Society and the West Boylston Council on Ageing, contributing countless hours to enhance the lives of those around her.
A proud resident of West Boylston for well over 60 years, Rita cherished her role in the community. In 2024, she was honored with the Post Cane Award, recognizing her as the oldest town resident. This accolade filled her with immense pride and reflected the value she placed on her long and fulfilling life.
Rita leaves behind many that loved her and will miss her including many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and seven sisters: Madeline Mastromatteo, Marion LeHane, Patricia Cocoran, Virginia Abato, Arianna Barbale, Leona Phaneuf, and Barbara Paquin.
Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Rita's life with a graveside service on January 22, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM in Mt. Vernon Cemetery located in West Boylston, Massachusetts.
