West Boylston Robert S. Bancroft, 78, of 8 Prospect St., died Friday, October 17, in his home after an illness. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Florence H. (Vernosky) Bancroft, two sons, John R. Bancroft of Boylston and Bruce M. Bancroft of Wellesley; a brother Raymond P. Bancroft of West Boylston; six grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was born in Holden, son of Freeland M. and Verna C. (Dand) Bancroft. He graduated from West Boylston High School. He worked for the HR Prescott Co. for many years before retiring, previously he worked for the Public Works Supply Co. He was a former member of the West Boylston Board of Assessors, the Planning Board and was a former Superintendent of the Water Dept. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and a former member of it's Board of Trustees. He was an avid wood worker. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 21, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church 26 Central St. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Boylston Fire and Ambulance Fund 39 Worcester St., West Boylston 01583. FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME 1 West Boylston St. is directing arrangements.
