New York - Robert K. Briggs, 89, formerly of Worcester, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, NY.
He was born May 9, 1932 son of Mary F. (Reardon) and Elmer J. Briggs. Robert (known as Bob) was raised in Worcester where he graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1951. Bob relocated to New York City in 1963 and spent over 25 years of his working career for Hotel Lexington in the accounts receivable department until his retirement.
Bob was very active in the Worcester County Light Opera club before moving to New York. He performed in several plays including: Brigadoon, Bells Are Ringing, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, and Separate Table. Bob
maintained ever lasting friendships with this community over the years. His love of theater endured in NY where he acted in many off Broadway productions. Bob was passionate about all arts but had a particular love of Opera (favorite: Rusalka) and Ballet (favorite: Romeo and Juliet) where he was a fixture at the Metropolitan Opera house.
Bob was also a global traveler and had many fond memories and experiences of his time in the famous cities in Europe and of course taking in many Operas and Ballets. Bob was a humble and compassionate person. His friends closest to him jokingly referred to him as the "goodest" person they know.
Robert leaves many behind that love and will miss him deeply including his dearest, beloved friend of 52years, Rene A Suarez-Barrio, of New York; his sister Doris (Briggs) Simonelli.; his nephews Robert Simonelli of Auburn and James Simonelli and his wife Diana of Grafton; many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mr. Briggs was predeceased by his parents and three half-sisters Rita, Marie, and Agnes.
Family and friends are welcomed to join in the celebration of Robert's life on Friday, December 10th at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
