Worcester - Robert E. Dik, 86, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his home.
He is survived by a daughter, Melinda K. Dik of Milwaukee, WI; a son, Robert K. "Ross" Dik, his wife, Lisa F., and their children, Christopher K. Dik and Steven E. Dik, all of Worcester; and a sister, Diane L. Matteson, of Madison, CT. He was preceded in death by his partner of 20 years, Malba Chase Ryder and his two brothers, Donald B. Dik and David W. Dik.


Born in Fitchburg, he was the son of Harold T. and Gladys L. (Barker) Dik. Bob graduated with honors from Clark University where he was co-captain of the varsity basketball team and recipient of the Hebert Trophy for outstanding senior athlete. He was a member of the Clark University Board of Trustees from 1969 to 1981. Bob served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Bob began his career at the former State Mutual Life Assurance Company. He worked for Knight-Dik Insurance Agency for 59 years, serving as president until 1991. He earned the CPCU insurance designation and taught insurance courses for many years.


He was a longtime member of Tatnuck Country Club, the Worcester Club, and Kiwanis International. He was an avid reader, sports fan, and bridge player. Raised on Bittersweet Farm in Townsend, Bob loved the outdoors and continued to chop his own wood for fireplace fires up until his death.


Funeral services will be held privately. Donations in his memory may be made to the Worcester Public Library Foundation, 3 Salem Square, Worcester, MA 01608.
