Robert C. Hannen

June 12, 1961 — July 9, 2023

North Brookfield

North Brookfield - Robert C. Hannen, 62, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 12, 1961, in Worcester to the late James B. And G. Virginia (Shepard) Hannen. “Bob” was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a man of character, sense of humor, and generosity.

Bob attended Worcester Boys Trade High School. After graduation he began a career in various trades, working with his brothers Steve and Jimmy at the Hannen Appliance family business before eventually joining NSTAR Gas, now Eversource, where he worked for over 20 years. A proud United Steel Workers Union (Local 12004) member and pipe fitter at the “humongous gas company”, as he called it. Bob became great friends with his colleagues who will recall his humor and quote his clever one liners that they call “Bobisms.”

Throughout his life, Bob was known for his down-to-earth nature and great sense of humor. He had a unique ability to make light of any situation and to bring joy to those around him. Bob enjoyed working with his hands to creatively construct or to tinker with things. Exceptionally generous with his time and energy, Bob always had a helping hand ready for those he loved. With a joke and a smile, he would gladly help on any household project, car repair, to build furniture or woodworking, and so much more.

Bob was a salt-of-the-earth New Englander. He loved old cars and enjoyed working on and driving his 1966 Mustang. Hampton Beach held a special place in his heart; he loved bringing his family there to hang out with the Morrissey clan. He also liked Cape Cod and camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Above all else, Bob adored raising and watching the growth of his three sons with his beloved wife. Their well-being brought him immense happiness throughout his life. He enjoyed being involved in his boy's youth sports leagues and was their baseball coach many times.

In recent times, Bob treasured frequent FaceTime sessions with his precious granddaughter.

Bob will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Gilda (Rheaume) Hannen; three sons, Brendan Hannen and his wife Julie, along with their daughter Clara of Worcester, Patrick Hannen of Worcester and James Hannen and his wife Kira of Washington, DC; his siblings, Kathleen Morrissey of Worcester, Stephen Hannen of North Brookfield, James Hannen of Worcester, John Hannen of North Brookfield, and Susan Bobo of North Carolina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Barbara Dumas.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home located at 61 Myrtle St. in Worcester, MA.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute whose care of Bob granted us all a few more precious years with him.
