WEST BOYLSTON, Robert D. Johnson, 88, of the Briarwood Community passed away Sunday, January 16 in St. Vincent Hospital.

He leaves five nephews, Mark J. Urella of Holden, David C. and his wife, Denise Urella of West Boylston, Mark P. and his wife, Annmarie Johnson of Worcester, Robert D. and his wife, Susan Johnson of Millbury and David S. and his wife, Tina Johnson of Sturbridge; two nieces, Deborah L. and her husband Richard Cyr of Charlton and Pamela Hayes of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 15 great-nieces and nephews and 13 great-great nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Stanley T. Johnson and Leonard F. Johnson and his sister, Norma Urella Petrone predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Gertrude A. (Trocki) Johnson and graduated from Classical High School and received an associate degree in engineering from Northeastern University. He was a US Army Veteran who served in Germany and was an honor graduated of the USAREUR Engineer School in Murnau, Germany.

Bob was the traffic engineer for the City of Worcester for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He was a former member of the City of Worcester Off Street Parking Board and was chairman for 20 years of the Worcester Regional Transit Authority. He was a registered professional engineer in the of State of Massachusetts. Bob was also a longtime member, Eucharistic Minister and parish council member of Our Lady of good Counsel Church. He was a member of the First Friday Club, served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army and its adult rehabilitation center, the Worcester Rotary Club, the YMCA and the Greendale Retired Men's Club. He was a former member of the New England Institute of Transportation Engineers and named Engineer of the Year in 1978.

A Visiting Hour will be held on Friday, January 21 from 9:30 to 10:30 at Fay Brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston St. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11am in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to his church, a place he so loved.
