BOYLSTON

Robert A. Pelkey, of Boylston, born January 30, 1925 in Worcester, died Thursday after a long illness. He was the youngest son of Thomas and Jeanette Pelkey, and the brother of Ruth, Ed, and Gene Pelkey, all deceased. He grew up on Vernon Hill, graduating from Commerce High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
After the war, he met the love of his life, Helen R (Johnson) Pelkey, and they married on January 8, 1949. They lived briefly in Los Angeles, where he graduated from UCLA with a degree in accounting. After returning to Worcester, he was an accountant for many local businesses. Bob and Helen moved to Boylston in 1957.
He is survived by Helen and their five children, Bob and his wife Debbie of Woodstock, Vermont, Tom and his wife Kathy of Hoosick Falls, New York, Jackie Orent Nathan and her husband Jeff of Andover, Jeralyn Fernandes and her husband Michael of Westport and Robbyn Wysocki and her husband Stephen of Plano, Texas. He was the beloved Granddad of 14 adoring grandchildren and one very handsome great-grandson. They will always remember his warm smile, loving heart and funny ways. There was nothing Bob was more proud of than his family, and they returned his love ten fold.
Bob was a salesman for the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company and the accountant for the town of Boylston for many years. He was a past deacon in the First Congregational Church of Boylston, and past president of the town's Senior Citizen Club. He was named Boylston's Citizen of the Year in 2005. Bob starred in many local theatre productions, and was known as the consummate entertainer-a singer, actor, and comedian, ready to tell a joke at a moment's notice. Bob's charm, plus his warm and caring heart instantly attracted people to him and he reveled in the spotlight.
