Worcester

WORCESTER: Robert A. Roach, 73, passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2025. He was born on June 23, 1951, in Worcester, and spent much of his life in and around the community he loved.

Robert worked a variety of jobs over the years and especially enjoyed his time working with the W.M. Tree Company. He possessed a strong work ethic and could be counted on to do a thorough job. Robert graduated from South High School in 1970. In addition, he attended Quinsigamond Community College and the Worcester Art Museum School.

In his personal life, Robert was an artist, and in later years focused on portraits and landscapes. He was also an avid cook, creating a variety of delicious and nutritious vegan meals. In addition to these pursuits, he was known as a great walker, appreciating the people, sights and sounds of the city.

Robert's life was one of simplicity and frugality. He was a bit of an urban homesteader, embracing a lifestyle that included meals made from scratch and repairing items rather than throwing them away, as part of his commitment to self-sufficiency.

He is survived by his brothers: Rev. Francis J. Roach and James M. Roach of Worcester, and Patrick J. Roach of Limestone, Maine. He also leaves behind several nephews, one niece, and great nephews and nieces, who will remember him fondly.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Francis X. Roach and Mary A. (Boyle) Roach, his sister Catherine M. "Katie" (Roach) Magnusson and his brothers Michael T. and John P. Roach. The memories of his life will always be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Robert's life with a visiting hour Thursday, February 27th, 2025 from 10am until 11am at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester.  A funeral will begin at 11am in the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Cemetery.
