WEST BOYLSTON
Beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, teacher, and friend.
Robert (Bob) C. Ryan, 94, formerly of West Boylston, died August 26, 2010, after living a full life. Son of the late John C. and Mary (Cain) Ryan, Bob attended, played sports (football and hockey), and graduated from Framingham High School. In his early teens, Bob also worked as a jockey/warm-up boy.
After high school, Bob attended Kents Hill Prep, Boston College, and Colby College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After college, Bob met, fell in love, and married his beloved wife of 55 years, the late Helen (Fowley) Ryan. After four years in the United States Army, during World War II, Bob returned to West Boylston, started a family, earned a Master's degree Education, and taught Business math in the Westborough Schools. Preceded in death by his brother, Piney, and sister, Florence (Bodge), Bob is survived by two sons and three grandsons: Robert C. Ryan, Jr., a language teacher for the federal government, in San Antonio, TX; Col. (ret.) John (Jack) B. Ryan, MD, an orthopedic surgeon in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Lt. William R. Ryan, Patrick J. Ryan, and Peter T. Ryan. Bob is also survived by niece, Cindy (Bodge) Carr and niece, Dottie (Fowley) Turgeon.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 10 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
