WEST BOYLSTON

Robert W. Smith, 65, of West Boylston, passed away Sat. Jan. 17 in West Boylston.

He leaves his brother, W. Denholm Smith and his wife Aiko of West Boylston; a sister, M. Diane Hendricken and her husband Lawrence of Worcester; a nephew, Yancy Garnett and his wife, Brigitte and their children, Jada and Celia and a niece, Kelly Hendricken and her daughter, Jolie all of Worcester, A brother, Stephen K. Smith of West Boylston died in 1953. He was born in Worcester, son of W. Dixon and Marion C. (Grant) Smith and attended Major Edwards High School and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School.
Bob was a truck driver for Baldarelli Brothers retiring in 2004. Prior to that he worked for Kimball Sand Company. In his early years he worked for W.D. Smith Company and at one time owned and operated Robert W. Smith Trucking. Bob was a stock car enthusiast and an avid Nascar fan. He owned and raced several cars at the Old Westborough Speed Way. In 1975 one of his cars, driven by George Summers of Upton won the Maine State Championship at the Oxford Plains Speed Way. He was a member and acolyte of St. Michael's on the Heights Church.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Unit at St. Vincent Hospital and the staff and physicians who gave Bob their careful care during his illness. We would also like to thank the Jewish Health Center Staff and Overlook Hospice, especially, Jeanne, Penny and Doreen.
The funeral service will be held on Wed., Jan. 21 at 11 AM in St. Michael's on the Heights Church, 340 Burncoat St., Worcester. Burial will be at the conveinece of the family. Visiting Hours are Tues., Jan. 20 from 5 to 7 PM in FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michaels on the Heights Church, 340 Burncoat St., Worcester, 01606 or the Overlook Visting Nurses Assoc. and Hospice, 88 Masonic Home Rd., Charlton, 01507.
