Roger F. Rice, 81, of 1000 West Boylston died Wednesday, June 8, at home. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Ardelle H. (Bridges) Rice; two sons, Roger F. Rice, Jr. of Eastham and Michael E. Rice of Sutton; two daughters, Diana M. Rice of Boston and Sheila A. Leahy of Auburn; a sister, Marjorie A. Sullivan of Worcester; six grandchildren, Jamie, Jeremy, Megan, Bridget, Ashley and Justin; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Mark W. Rice and Paul V. Rice, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Mark W. and Cecilia (Ennis) Rice and graduated from St. Peter's High School. He was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Roger was a bus driver for the Worcester Regional Transited Authority for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a charter member of St. Christopher's Church and the National WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. He was a life member of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post %23279, the Veterans of Foreign War Post %2315022 and the Retired Men's Club of Greendale.
The funeral will be held Friday, June 10, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St. W. Boylston, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, 950 W. Boylston St. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
