Leicester
Roy L. Ashe 94, formerly of Bottomly Ave. in Cherry Valley, died Wednesday (Dec.18) at the Clark Manor Nursing Home, Worcester, after an illness.
His wife of 72 years, Lillian E. (Jubinville) Ashe died last year. He leaves two daughters, Janet M. Donahue of Cherry Valley and Kathleen A. LaPorte of Worcester, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A son, Robert Francis Ashe died in 1955. A brother, Emmett J. Ashe and a sister, Mildred Kalloch both predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of James W. and Annie M. (Kneeland) Ashe.He graduated from Leicester High School and the former Leicester Academy.
He was a Traffic Manager for Crompton and Knowles Corporation for many years. He retired several years ago and prior to that he worked for New York Central Railroad and U.S. Steel Corporation.
He was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Leicester Council %234528 and a member of its Friday Night Bowling League, Past President of the Worcester Traffic Association, member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, the New England Industrial Traffic League, the Traffic Club of New England, former Chairman of the Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce General Transportation Committee, an avid golfer and member of the Hillcrest Country Club. "The Roy L. Ashe Invitational Golf Tournament" was named in his honor and was played in New Hampshire.
A Funeral will be Saturday (Dec.21) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St. (www.faybrothers.com) Worcester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 759 Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Friday (Dec.20) from 5 to 7p.m. at the funeral home.
