AUBURN-Russell W. Bates, 45, of Auburn passed away Mon., Oct. 1 at home with his family at his side. He set out on a new journey; "May He Travel Well".
He leaves his loving wife of 16 years, Nancy (Mayer) Bates; his beloved son, Chad R. Bates of Auburn, his parents, Clement and Shirley (Cleary) Bates of Worcester; his grandmother, Emeline Sutela of Auburn; his brother, Timothy Bates and his wife Michelle of Auburn; his two sisters, Patricia and her husband Richard Riley of Rockaway Township, NJ and Brenda Fisher of Worcester.
He was born in Worcester and graduated from Burncoat High School. He served in the Army from 1981-1984. Russ worked as a truck driver for Roadway Express before becoming ill. He was a member of the Auburn Sportsman Club. Russell was a passionate outdoorsman. He loved and respected the ocean and scuba diving, hunting and fishing.
Russell's family would like to thank Dr. Vijay Kasturi, his staff and the 5-South nurses at Memorial Hospital for caring so much.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, Oct. 4 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St., Worcester. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
