WORCESTER-Russell A. Giroux, 79, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center after being stricken ill at home.
He was born in Southbridge, the eldest son of the late Alfred and Stella (Bachand) Giroux and graduated from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge in 1957 as Valedictorian with honors in math.
Russ worked as an electrician for I.B.E.W. Local 96 for many years. He loved horse racing mostly in Saratoga, NY, but also Tampa Bay Downs in Florida when he lived in that area for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Katherine J. (Sweeney) Giroux, his children from his previous marriage, Karen Frasieur and her husband Scott, Rebecca Sandine and her husband Larry, Brenda Johnson and her husband Rick, Lynn Peterson and her husband Chris, and Barbara Crittenden and her husband Jay. He also leaves nine grandchildren and a brother, Roger Giroux and his wife Jonell of Clearwater, FL and their daughters, Tara, Tracy and Tammy. Russell was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Giroux.
It was Russell's wish that no funeral services be held. Arrangements are in the care of Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street.
