WORCESTER/NORTH FALMOUTH-Russell E. Manoog, 80, passed away Sunday, May 24th. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Bettejane (Bockoven) Manoog; his children, Charlie Manoog and his wife Moira of Worcester and Sarah Manoog and her husband Jay Borkland of Swampscott; three grandchildren, Charles F. Manoog of Worcester, Alexander and Amelia Borkland of Swampscott. Russell's brother, Charles Manoog, Jr. predeceased him when they were young boys.
Russell was born in Worcester the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Johnson) Manoog. He graduated from Worcester Academy in 1952, Harvard University in 1956 and received his M.B.A from Boston University. He spent 3 years in the Army and served in Tokyo, Japan. After the Army, Russell worked for over 40 years at Charles Manoog, Inc. and retired in 2004 as Chairman. Amongst his proudest achievements was growth and continuation of The Plumbing Museum started by his father, Charles, and its' dedication to the education and professionalism of the plumbing trade. Russell especially like to give annual tours to the graduating classes of future Licensed Plumbers from many of the vocational schools around New England. Also, on two separate occasions, The Plumbing Museum sponsored tours overseas including visits to England and Paris.
Russell was a life time member of All Saints Episcopal Church and former president of the Board of Vestry. He was proud to be included in the American Antiquarian Society, The Bohemians, The Worcester Club, where he served as President and The Harvard Clubs of Worcester and Boston. Russell also served terms as president of The New England Wholesalers Association and The Board of Trustees at Worcester Academy and Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed skiing, traveling, sailing and spending time with his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 28th at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving St. In lieu of flowers, Contributions in his memory can be made to the Life Choices Hospice Organization at 123 Watertown Rd %235 in Bourne, MA and the Alzheimer's Foundation (www.alzfdn.org). Arrangements are in the care of CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St.
