Russell L. Romkey, 94 of E. Falmouth formerly of Auburn passed away on Monday, April 16th at Royal Nursing Center. Mr. Romkey was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth A. Romkey.
Mr. Romkey was born Aug. 12, 1912 in Shrewsbury to Louis S. and Leona L, Romkey. He graduated from Millbury High and then from the New England School of Accounting in Worcester.
Mr. Romkey was a supervisor in the spring work division of U.S. Steel in Worcester retiring in 1968 after 30 years of service. Russell was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. He very much enjoyed the beauty of his flowers and sharing them and his knowledge with others. He loved taking his summer vacations with family to his favorite place, Nova Scotia, where both his parents were born. Mr. Romkey was a member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn where he was a Deacon and also Superintendent of the Christian Education for many years. Russell lived in Auburn for 53 years before moving to E. Falmouth with his son and daughter in law, Ralph & Pat Romkey. He enjoyed his time spent with family and the ocean.
He leaves a daughter, Elizabeth Swope of New Mexico, his son and daughter in law, Ralph and Patricia of E. Falmouth, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, his sister, Inez Dickie of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Louis S. Romkey, Jr. and his sisters, Marjorie Nickerson and Jean Wilson.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, April 21st at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Auburn, 128 Central St. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Visiting hours will be Friday, April 20th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St., Worcester.
