WORCESTER- Ruth M. (Hanscom) Henderson, 78, of Worcester, died Monday, August 27, in UMASS Memorial Healthcare. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Francis H. Henderson, Sr.; a son, Francis H. Henderson, Jr. and his wife Debra of Paxton; two dear grandsons who were "Nana's" heart and soul, Francis H. Henderson, III and his wife Aimee of Northampton and Brian T. Henderson of Paxton; two great grandchildren, Francis H. Henderson, IV and Adriana. She also leaves a brother-in-law, Paul Camyre of Palmer, many loving nephews, nieces and friends. Five sisters to whom Ruth was very close predeceased her, Junie, Do, Gracie, Betty and Shirley. Together, they were the true meaning of the "golden girls".

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles W. and Lena V. (McArdle) Hanscom. Ruth worked at Worcester State Hospital for 30 years retiring in 1989 and was a member of St. Christopher's Church. She was an avid cook and gardener, enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing Trivial Pursuit with her family. She was a very loving and generous person who always reached out to her family and friends to whom she was affectionately known as "Auntie Ruthie"

The funeral will be held on Friday, August 31 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Christopher's Church, 950 West Boylston St. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Thursday, August 30 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the Worc.
