Samir was born in Jezzine, Lebanon, son of the late Bechara & Angele Asswad. Class of 1953, he graduated with an electrical engineering degree and went on to lead SECAT international a Steel, electric, construction and trading firm in Sharjah – United Arab Emirates. Samir spent most of his professional career abroad before coming to the states to take on a new adventure.
As a lifelong student, he was passionate about always furthering his education, so much so that he received a doctorate in chemical engineering while working for the MWRA. A man fluent in more languages then google translate, found himself a new challenge when the photography bug bit him. Those who knew him best, knew to run when he turned the corner with his camera, those who just meet him learned the hard way. But who could resist the charm of papa smurf.
He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Family will honor and remember Samir's life Friday, March 5th 10am at Worcester county memorial park, 217 Richards ave Paxton Massachusetts. Samir's funeral service will be private.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the front line workers at St. Vincent hospital. The kindness, care and attention to detail in looking after Samir, in his final days, made his passing much easier for him and our family.
