Samuel E. Hutchful, Jr.

Samuel (Paa Ekow) Hutchful Jr. was born October 3, 1974 at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

in Accra Ghana to Samuel Ekow Hutchful Sr. and Monica Akpe. He was the youngest of their 3 children after Victoria and Emmanuel. Paa Ekow went to school at Cambridge preparatory School at Dansoman Junction, Saint Anthony International School, and then to Emit Technical School. He loved to play soccer with his brother Emmanuel and his friends, enjoyed listening to Reggae, High Life, and Hip Hop. He also loved to dance.

When he was 19 years old he came to Massachusetts with his brother and sister, through the support of his father. He met his future spouse, Becky, a couple years later. With Becky, he took on the parent role of raising her 2 children, Tasha and Justin, and had 3 more of his own children, Tamiah, Tyrique, and Tanisha. He later brought his son, Teddy, from Ghana to join them here.

He worked at multiple jobs, one that brought them to live in Indiana for a year, but later returned to Massachusetts. He then completed his CDL license and drove cross-country with his brother, Emmanuel. Raising his family was his greatest joy. He spent many happy times with his brother and sister’s families. He enjoyed just hanging out, relaxing, laughing, and cookouts. His nieces and nephews loved him and have fond memories of their times together. Sam was most proud of hischildren and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He was a kid at heart and couldn’t go a day without watching cartoons. He tortured his brother many a night while driving long haul repeatedly watching “The Emperor’s New Groove”.

In fall of 2023 he discovered he had cancer. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation and the doctors announced he was in remission. In the summer of 2024, however, he started experiencing throat pain again, and it was found that the cancer had returned. He passed away peacefully to his rest on February 15, 2025 at the age of 50 at University of Massachusetts Medical Center with family by his side. He is survived by his parents, Samuel and Monica, brother Emmanuel (April) and sister Victoria (Benson), his children as mentioned above, also sisters, Ajara, Naa Momo, and brother, Eric. He leaves behind many extended family members, and friends.

His best friend Emmanuel in South Africa remembers him as “a sweet guy, cool, easy going, hates grudges and hustles, and loves to be happy. He chose peace over everything.”

We look forward to that resurrection morning when all will be made new.
