WORCESTER: Sandra C. (Jernstrom) Allen, 81, of Worcester and formerly of Brimfield and Sterling, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, after an illness. She leaves her son, Michael Allen of Brooklyn, NY, and her sister Sharon Cahill, of West Boylston, MA. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William S. Allen, in 2018.

Sandra was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Carl “Bill” Jernstrom and Marjorie (Butler) Jernstrom. She graduated from West Boylston High School in 1962 and became a teacher after attending Fitchburg State College and Anna Maria College. Sandra first taught Special Education at Naquag Elementary School in Rutland, MA; later she taught reading and first grade at Bancroft School in Worcester, MA for over 20 years. In the 1980s, Sandra and her husband William owned and operated the Kiddie Kastle and Deb Shop clothing stores on Millbury St. in Worcester.

Teaching was Sandra’s passion, and her 50+ year career in the classroom gave her the opportunity to help shape her student’s lives directly. While a classroom teacher at Bancroft School, Sandra was the proud recipient of the Carpe Diem award, which honored her service to the Bancroft community, her dedication to creating a positive learning environment for her students, and her role as a leader amongst her peers.

Sandra enjoyed reading mystery novels, cooking and baking—especially around the holidays, as well as playing board games, and watching TV and movies. She loved supporting the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Sandra adored animals, and over the years had many dogs and cats as pets—she especially loved her most recent cat, Jude, who now lives with her sister, Sharon.
