WORCESTER-Sheila Morrissey Smith, 83, died Monday, November 25, 2019 in her home with her loving husband and children by her side. She was one of eight children born in Worcester, daughter of Irish immigrants Michael and Julia (O'Donoghue) Morrissey and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Worcester and Worcester State Teacher's College. Sheila was an elementary school teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for more than 35 years. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Parish and an active member of the Alumni Association of Worcester State College.

Sheila was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She loved spending time with her family, visiting Hampton Beach, Nantasket and Cape Cod, following the Red Sox, and reading a good book. She was a loyal member of the Queens, "Club", and the Dinettes, with whom she shared many fond memories and was a proud citizen of Red Cooler Nation. She was especially fond of her many dear, dear, dear friends.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Donald J. Smith with whom she shared their 61st wedding anniversary on November 22nd and her seven children; Stephen and his wife Terri-Lee of North Carolina, Patti Mullan and her husband Jeffrey of Milton, Meg Pennucci and her husband Nick of Worcester, Tom and his wife Tenny of Westborough, Liz Lapolito and her husband Tony of Grafton, Jennifer Farley and her husband Pierre of Paxton and Michael and his wife Heather of Hopkinton. She leaves 17 grandchildren of whom she was most proud; Ainslee Noreen, Haley Ruzbarsky, Daniel, Matthew and Brendan Mullan, Kristen, Justine and Nicholas Pennucci, Sadie and Alison Smith, Isabella and Frank Lapolito, Rachael and Timothy Farley, and Nolan, Natalie and Noelle Smith. She also leaves three great grandchildren, Lauren and Anders Noreen of North Carolina and Reagan Ruzbarsky of Virginia, and six siblings, Daniel Morrissey of Worcester, Edward Morrissey and his wife Carolann of Connecticut, Ann Petricca of Clinton, John and Jean Morrissey of Shrewsbury, Joseph and Nancy Morrissey of North Carolina, and Mary Morrissey of Worcester. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Morrissey, her sister-in-law Mary Morrissey, and her brother-in-law Carl Petricca.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gary Blanchard, Dr. Suzanne Martin, the entire Kidney Dialysis Unit and St. Vincent Hospital for the amazing care they provided to Sheila over the last several years.

Visiting hours to celebrate Sheila's life will be held Sunday, December 1st from 3 until 6 pm at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home. All are invited to gather directly at St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street, on Monday, December 2nd at 11 am for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you offer an act of kindness to someone in need as a tribute to the incredible life that Sheila lived.
