Sonia (Avila) Oliveras, age 65, passed away on Saturday, November 30th, at UMass Memorial University Hospital after a period of illness.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jamie, who passed away in 2013. Sonia is survived by her son, Emanuel A. Oliveras, and his wife Jessica of Worcester, as well as her cherished grandson, Joseph A. Oliveras. Additionally, she leaves behind six sisters: Miriam Avila of Puerto Rico, and Olga Cortes, Nilda Avila, Aida Medina, Sandra Madera, and Lisa Rosario, all of Worcester, along with several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sonia was the daughter of Arcadio Avila and Victoria (Cortes) Gonzalez. She dedicated many years of her life to her work as a personal care attendant, a role that underscored her caring nature. Sonia's faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was an active member of the Iglesia Apostolica Church, where her spirituality flourished.

Sonia had a vibrant personality and found joy in simple pleasures—she loved shopping, particularly from Temu, and cherished cooking and traveling. Among her favorite places was Coney Island, New York, and she had a particular fondness for Papa Gino's pizza.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, December 12, at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration, located at 61 Myrtle Street, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
