Listen to Obituary

Sotirios Ganias (Teddy) of Worcester, Massachusetts passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family when the lord called him home to be with his beloved wife, Irene Ganias, of 57 years. Teddy was born to his parents Olga and Michael Ganias in Vavouri, Greece before traveling to Worcester, MA where he met his beautiful wife at the Greek Orthodox Church. He swept her off her feet, asked her father for her hand in marriage and they built their lives together.

Throughout the years, Teddy owned and operated the Edgemere Diner, Route 20 pizza, and worked for the Mass Pike. He even became a wonderful poker dealer and dealt cards for Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

Teddy had a deep Greek voice, strong vocals, and a witty sense of humor. He was well known around town, he loved life and often enjoyed being on the go. Whether it was playing with the Greeks at the Ahepa, going to the Italian club, or at his favorite casinos. Teddy was a great poker player and had a unique style that got everyone on the table going. He was wise throughout his life, loved telling jokes, and making people laugh. He enjoyed homemade food by his loving wife, he had a deep passion for Greek music and to dance Zeibekiko. Teddy especially loved to read books and watch movies. He would enjoy his favorite breakfast places, hot coffees, and some rainy weather. Although he had many interests/hobbies, Teddy cherished his family the absolute most and carried faith throughout his life especially in his later days when he would read verses from the Bible. He was a husband, a dad, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather, a great friend to many. He usually went by Teddy or Papou.

He leaves behind two children, Louisa Ganias and Chris Ganias and his companion Karen Zawalich of Worcester. His granddaughter Brianna Carter and husband David McCune of Jupiter, FL. His granddaughter Nichole Carter of Worcester. Four great-grandchildren Julius, Ethan, Elle-Rose and Cash. Two brothers, Steve Ganias of Connecticut and Charlie Ganias of Worcester. Teddy was greeted in heaven by his wife, parents Olga and Michael Ganias, and his brother, Dimitrios "Jimmy" Ganias.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at 11:30am at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Sotirios (Teddy) Ganias February 5th ,1944 - April 14th, 2026
