Stanley L. Hopper

WEST BOYLSTON
Stanley L Hopper, age 83, a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather passed away, Wed., Feb. 6.

Stanley will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Lynette (Kirk) Hopper with whom he shared his life for 59 years. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Sheryl, wife of Bruce Keddy of Holden and Cynthia Elkatiss, mother of his three cherished grandchildren, Jason, Nathan and Erin Hooten. He also leaves 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Betty Hopper,of Florida. He was pre-deceased by his three brothers, Harold, Lloyd and Leslie.

Stan, son of Leslie L and Ana (Wright) Hopper, was born and lived in Clinton until he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country from 1942 to 1946. Stan and Lynn were married in 1949 and relocated to West Boylston in 1950. Stan worked at the Colonial Press in Clinton until its closing in 1977. He was then employed by the West Boylston school system as a custodian and maintenance man. During that time and well into his retirement, Stan was a devoted and much loved school bus driver, a role he happily filled.

After his family, Stan's great love was American Legion Baseball. He was associated with and managed West Boylston Team 204 for close to 30 years. "Stan the Man" was well known as the heart and soul of the team, its bull-nosed fund raiser and its most avid fan. Although he used a microphone to announce home games, there was really no need%E2%80%A6.his loud and ever encouraging voice may still be heard echoing through Goodale Park, cheering on "his boys". Stan was a long time, supporting member of the West Boylston American Legion Post 204, having held many offices and was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 6709. The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff of the Special Care Unit at Marlborough Hospital for the excellent care given to Stan while there.

A Funeral Service will be held Sat., Feb. 9, at 10:00 AM in Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 W. Boylston St. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Fri. Feb. 8, from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Care Unit of Marlboro Hospital, Marlboro, MA.
