Stephen A. Ferguson 76, of 65 Chatanika Ave. died Sunday (Aug.25) at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Mary E. (Hiller) Ferguson, three sons, Michael S. Ferguson of Worcester, Patrick H. Ferguson of Holden, and David K. Ferguson of West Brookfield, two daughters, Maureen F. Ferguson of Holden and Kathleen A. Sullivan of Paxton, a brother, William V. Ferguson of Auburn, eight grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Paul J. Ferguson and Gerald F. Ferguson both of Worcester and Walter H. Ferguson of Holden all predeceased him. He was born in Worcester son of Patrick H. and Margaret E. (McInerney) Ferguson. He graduated from Saint John's High School, The College of the Holy Cross, and Boston University Law School.
He was a Navy Veteran of WWII.
Mr. Ferguson founded the Ferguson Law Firm in Worcester and was later joined by his three sons, Ferguson, Ferguson and Ferguson Attorneys at Law. He specialized in Eminent Domain Law and was certified to practice before the Supreme Court.
He was a member of Christ the King Church, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Presidents Council of the College of the Holy Cross, Past President of the Worcester Public Library, Massachusetts Bar Association, Worcester County Bar Association, and an assistant to the Attorney General from 1968 to 1974 under Atty. General Robert Quinn. He was an avid reader and knowledgeable historian who collected over 10,000 books from his home library.
A Funeral will be held Wednesday (Aug 28) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St. (www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Tuesday (Aug.27) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
