SUTTON-Stephen L. Shannon, 82, of Sutton, died Monday, October 5 at home, surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Carolyn A. (Peterson) Shannon; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Charest and her husband James A. Charest of Sutton and Lauren M. Sardagnola and her husband Paul A. Sardagnola, Jr. of Millbury; his sister, Evelyn L. Weidner and her husband Frederick of Sarasota, FL; two grandchildren, Nicolas and Alicia Sardagnola; two step grandsons, Jason and Adam Charest. He also leaves two nephews, Douglas Weidner in PA and Mark Weidner in CT and two nieces, Lori Winship in CA and Shannon Rawls in TX. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gerry Rawls and Deannie Winship.
He was born in Tonkawa, OK, the son of Walter W. and Gladys E. (Stephens) Shannon. In 1969, Mr. Shannon retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. During that time he served in the Korean War and was stationed in Korea, Japan, Alaska, Greece and Guam. After his military career, he worked for the US Postal Service for 14 years, retiring in 1988. Upon retirement Steve and Carolyn moved to South Carolina until 1997. He was a member of the Worcester Surfcasting Club of Cape Cod, enjoyed boating, golf and snowmobiling and especially enjoyed family gatherings.
The funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10 in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St., Worcester. A visiting hour for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM with the memorial service from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen's memory to UMASS Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605 or the First Congregational Church of Sutton, Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
