WORCESTER-Terrence P. "Terry" McGurl, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at St. Mary's Rehabilitation Home in Worcester. He was born March 31, 1942 in Worcester, the son of George E. and Catherine E. "Katie" (Callahan) McGurl. Terry was a graduate of Commerce High School and worked as a cook at the Acapulco Restaurant on Highland Street for many years.
He is survived by his sister Helen K. Glynn and her husband Kenneth of Lakeland, FL; his sister-in-law Jeannette McGurl; two brothers, William P. and his wife Inge of Paxton and Kevin T. and his wife Marjorie "Mickey" of Worcester; many nephews and nieces; and his best friend, Bill Laverty. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother George E. "Gig" McGurl,Jr. in 2007 and his nephew Robert W. McGurl in 1983.
Terry was quite a ballplayer in his younger days. He was a big fan of all Boston sports teams and was always willing to talk about them at his home away from home, the downtown Dunkin Donuts. Terry had a very happy go lucky attitude and he could befriend anyone.
The McGurl family would like to thank the dedicated staff at UMass Memorial Hospital, St. Mary's Rehabilitation and the Jewish Home Health and Hospice Nurses for the excellent care they provided Terry.
FUNERAL RESCHEDULED
Terry's funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 3 from CALLAHAN~FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 11am in St. John's Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will follow. Visiting hours are NOW Tuesday, February 3 from 8:30 to 10:30am in the funeral home.
