Worcester- Thalia (Tsiokas) McGrath, 96, passed away Wednesday, September 9th in the Jewish Nursing Home. She was born in Chicago, IL daughter of Nicholas and Marina (Boulios) Tsiokas. Thalia graduated from Fanning Trade High School.
Thalia worked at Comfort Products. She was an excellent seamstress and known for her beautiful afghans. Tahlia enjoyed difficult puzzles, summer trips to Maine and the Foxboro casino. She was uncanny lucky with scratch tickets. She was also a great lover of animals.
Thalia had a remarkable, natural gift for listening and guiding family and friends through the most difficult trials. Her husband, John “Jack” McGrath passed away in 2000. She leaves her sister, Helen Pilitsis, close loving friends, nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was predeceased by ten siblings, George, Alex, Theodore, Stephen, James, Spyridon, Gust, Pericles, Katherine Nanchu and Sophia Tsiokas and her beloved cousin, Mildred “Mille” Saari.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt, thank you to the Jewish Nursing Home, for their excellent and loving care they provided for Thalia.
A Private funeral was held in Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial was private in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russel St., Worcester, 01609 or to the Jewish Nursing Center, 629 Salisbury St, Worcester, 01609.
